Course description
Consideration of special topics of current interest in social work. May be repeated for a maximum of 15 hours credit when the seminar topic is different. Registration priority will be given to admitted social work students. Dual listed with SOWK 5800. Prerequisite: Any admitted BSW student; OR consent of instructor and junior standing with completion of a USP-COM 2 course.

This course explores the roles, functions, and competencies of social workers in healthcare. Strengths-based, family- centered, and culturally responsive approaches to assessment and intervention with different populations across health settings are explored. We examine advanced interventions, from prevention and health promotion to crisis intervention in acute care and end-of-life scenarios.
