Section information
This integrated class aims to provide a learning environment in which students are able explore endurance mountain sports training, racing, and coaching. Throughout this course students will engage in immersive learning about the four pillars of endurance mountain sports: 1) Physiology, 2) Psychology & Philosophy, 3) General Wellness, and 4) Technical and Tactical skills. Students will complete two major projects. First, they will propose, perform, and present a creative project or research study on one of the four pillars. Second, they will generate a complete coaching/teaching philosophy that will also be shared publicly. Upon successfully completing the course, learners will show their ability to train for, race and coach endurance mountain sports through written work, presentations, and hands-on activities, using the four pillars of endurance mountain sport training. Students taking this course have the option to enroll in the corresponding field experience which provides experiential, place-based learning.
